SIG Workplace were commissioned with the supply and installation of office furniture for PwC’s new headquarters at Spencer Dock. As a new build, PwC had almost complete flexibility in creating a tailor made office. The challenge was to express the PwC culture in an invigorating colourful workplace while creating an environment that could best support individual work styles and ensuring the new workplace aligned with the company’s aspirations as an organization.
This project consists of 9 floors over 3 blocks accomodating over 1800 people. The product chosen was the Forward range by Steelcase, originally designed in collaboration with the Foster Design partnership. At the heart of Forward is a structural element called the bridge, around which everything else is configured. For simplicity there were only two workstation standards developed for PwC, with all standard workstations having two linear metres of integral storage and five linear metres for the enclosed offices.
As the overall design concept was to achieve transparency, and to facilitate this none of the workstations exceeded 1300mm in height. The bridge takes over the functionality of the traditional desk by accomodating all the wire management.
Further developments were introduced to the product by Mullally Leonard Partnership and SIG Workplace, to further improve the functionality as outlined by the PwC focus group. This included personal lockers and movable storage pedestals, the latter being capable of becoming a seat for impromptu meetings.
A first for Ireland was the introduction of LED lighting as a major influence in the working environment-themed through into the individual workstations
